Disagreement and Understanding

I’m not going to get preachy, but if I do, forgive me. I will attempt to speak plainly. My opinions are my own, and I hope they have some validity to the experience of others. If I reach can reach a common ground with others, I’ll take it as a blessing, but not a requirement. It is a goal that I know I may never attain, but if I remain honest and true with my words how my experiences have created them, I feel I’m at least half way there. I don’t see disagreement as a failure, but as a necessary step in a path that can end with understanding. There are few universal truths, and every man and woman sees the world through their own unique view. If one can stay honest with this personal truth, then there is already validity in that person’s worldview.

There are two traps that are ever present with this theory. The first is when we are not being honest with ourselves, and we blindly express opinions that were simply given to us, without using the tool of intuition. Intuition is something that is so carnal and pure, that when we really give it an uncensored voice, it becomes so powerful that it can easily defeat our own learned logic. It is an innate gift that enables us to survive. Without intuition, man could never have advanced to the achievements we have reached as a society today. In terms of debate, it is nearly impossible to argue with another being’s intuition. It is something that when used, will supersede all of our conscious thoughts- when we are pushed against the wall, it will immediately step in to address the situation, often without us consciously making the decision to use it. It is my belief that if one can aim to consciously use this weapon, in banal everyday decisions, rather than to only use it in times of distress, like a muscle, it can become stronger, and lead you onto a smoother path or achieving what you want out of life. But I digress.

In terms of debate and creating a better understanding of each other, if we understand that no one man’s intuition is the same as another’s, we can see how two opposing positions both can be correct. It is because we all live such different realities that this is not only possible, but sometimes necessary. So where does understanding come into the picture? I believe that while it may not be a fail-safe option, the next necessary step to be explored is compromise. When we do not challenge our beliefs against the ideas of others, we lose the opportunity to strengthen them ideas and allow them to evolve. Sometimes one woman’s truth can be unpopular- but for that one person’s reality, it is correct for her, and incorrect for others. It is at this point where disagreement no longer remains a negative thing, but is the truthful end result of the situation. If each view point is expressed with thought, reflection, and objectivity, and still no bridge can be built, then the river that flows between each opinion is the truth, and it should not be crossed.

So what is the point of this article, you may ask. I’ll answer that question with another famous quote/question: “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” The opinions I’ve expressed are merely parts of a hypothesis, ideas that are nearly impossible to be proved universally correct, for they are individual, born from my own personal experiences. We may never be able to definitively prove how or why we as human beings are significant, or if our thoughts and ideas are worthy of exploration, but it is not an excuse to refuse the challenge of understanding ourselves and others, even if disagreement is the final answer.

Things I learned on my Facebook vacation: A guide in case you choose to do the same...

So recently, I decided to take a break from my Facebook addiction long enough to finish writing my first feature-length script... Since I am such a FB junkie, I figured that the absence of this drug would give me the time and focus to finish the script. I'll preface this article by saying that I am now back on Facebook, but the script still isn't finished. That should tell you a little something about the power of the F book. So even though I failed at my goal, I did learn a few things... and I'd like to share them with you.

Three months off Facebook actually feels like six months.

Honestly, after the first two weeks, it's not so bad... You kinda get used to communicating with friends in other ways, and not documenting every single random thought that comes into your head. After about a month, you don't even miss it. After about two months, you're almost a normally functioning human being again- the only problem with that is, the only people who still act like that are people over 50, and non-conformists. It will start to wear on you. People will have conversations around you about that hilarious thing they just posted on their page that everybody read, but oh, you didn't read it, cus you weren't there. It's like Facebook is that party in high school that everybody went to, and had so much fun, but you didn't go, because of whatever excuse you could think of that day for not being social. It wasn't even like you weren't invited, cus you were, you just felt like being a loser. Everyone who's anyone is a social network junkie these days, so if you choose to stay out of the fray, you mostly end up feeling left behind.

But...

There are upsides! You start to appreciate other things in life, you know, those things that we used to spend our attention on before computers, like trees, and parks, and nature, and all that. You tell yourself, I don't need all that technology to function... I'm on a cleanse. A technology cleanse, if you will. This feels really awesome for a weeks- you notice that you're talking to more people in real life! You're not as standoffish as you usually are. You're enjoying conversations in real time, with people right in front of you! All of this is great, until...

That hot girl at work asks why didn't you come to her birthday party this weekend.

You say, but oh, wait, I didn't know you had a party! And she replies, well, I invited everyone on Facebook... Blast! So she ended up drunkenly hooking up with your other co-worker instead of you, because you know what? You weren't there. You were hanging out at the coffee shop holding conversations with "real people." Sucks, right? You didn't get to go to the party, but just remember this...

People who are only your friends on Facebook are not your real friends.

If you can remember this, it will buy you at least a few more weeks off Facebook without any feelings of loss. I did notice that I still hung out with my closest friends, without missing a beat. Your real friends will notice your absence and text you, call you, or e-mail you, something. It actually ends up being quite the litmus test, in case you needed one. It's nothing to take personal though, people are busy. But if you're a big schmoozer who likes to be out on the town, you will take a loss. People are usually not going to go the extra mile to dig up your e-mail address to invite you to some event. This is where Facebook has totally cornered the market. Outside of Evite, they make it the easiest way of keeping people informed about events that are going on. If you can deal with losing out on this, you're pretty much golden.

As far as social networking goes, Twitter has definitely made its presence felt.

Now, I'm not on Twitter, but one thing I have noticed every time I return from a Facebook vacation, is that the newsfeed activity declines more and more each time. Half the time I see status updates, it's through a twitter feed anyway. This is where facebook really lost out. Once the celebrities got behind Twitter, it was over. The activity that website generates is astronomical. Status updates are cool, but Tweets are king these days. I'm actually considering joining now because of all the respectable folk who are on it these days... (It's not just for the Hiltons and Kardashians anymore!) It's cool because it's like being friends with these celebs- they're sharing their thoughts with us just like we used to with our friends through status updates on FB. For me, it seems like FB has become a great place to share pictures, but beyond that, it's more like a glorified Yellow Pages these days. Which leads me to my last point...

In the end, Facebook should not be the end-all be-all of your social life.

Sure, it makes things much easier by bringing all your friends into one place, but I realize now that there is something lost with digital friendships. They're simply not like the real thing. They're not as substantial, and they're not as fulfilling. But it's best to not even look at it like that. Facebook seems like a great way to keep up with loose acquaintances, and people you miss from your past lives. But outside of that, don't you think it would be better to call your friend, or actually write a letter? It's the ease of Facebook that makes it seem less personal... A poke is never going to trump a phone call. bottom line.

So, in the end, what did we learn? Facebook is cool, and it's not probably not inherently evil, but don't spend your entire life on it... There are some things you might be missing out on- like true, human, interaction.

Prelude to the State of the Industry

I have some words that I'd like to prepare for the artists of the world... Most specifically those in film and television in Los Angeles, but it is my hope that my assessment can be applicable to artists everywhere, in music, or the fine arts, or whatever. I live in LA and work in the tv/film industry, and I try not to speak on things that I don't know much about, so it is to this audience whom I will mainly speak.

It doesn't matter how many followers or fans you have. I'm not talking sh*t, but if you use that as your barometer, then Kim Kardashian is the best and brightest that Hollywood has to offer. I will say this once, and I will have to say it again.

THIS IS NOT A MERITOCRACY.

For those of you who are bright eyed and bushytailed, just having gotten off a bus at Union Station, or just landed in LAX, I welcome you. You got here, and I commend that. But staying here, and also accomplishing what you set out to do before you got here, will be very hard work. I won't lie to you and say that it won't be. Most people end up staying here and giving up, knowing that if they can't attain their dreams, at the very least, they can at least enjoy some of the best weather there is on earth, and eke out an existence teaching yoga, being a personal trainer, or going into real estate. Or, other people choose to leave, discovering that their hopes can only really be accomplished elsewhere, or not at all. Though I'm not famous or successful by any means, I do have eyes and ears that I keep very close to the ground. I've accomplished a few small (but difficult) things in my life, but gaining a foothold in Hollywood tops them all. It will be the hardest thing you ever try to do. Period. If I have already alienated you, please allow this prelude to be your wake up call that takes you back to the drawing board, to hopefully accomplish something that is more important and fulfilling than making movies.

If I haven't alienated you, however, and you'd still like to continue, follow me down the road of crippled dreams. The state of the industry is bleak, and I hope you brought a flashlight in your suitcase. You're gonna need it.

Reminiscing on Failed Judd Apatow-produced Sitcoms

Don't worry, this will be even shorter than the lifespan of these series...

Undeclared

I would've liked to watch this show and help keep it on the air- but at the time, I was living it... No substitute for experience, right? Sorry Judd... Here's hoping we eventually get the quintessential college sitcom right one day.

Freaks and Geeks

Now, I was still in high school when this came on, (still in the safety of my parent's home, with limited other options besides homework and basketball practice) and I was an AVID watcher... Girls had their My So-Called Life, but Freaks and Geeks was quirky, intelligent, accessible comedy for everyone- or maybe I was just a freak. Or a geek. I'm not sure anymore, that was a while ago. In any case, I guess everyone forgot to tell the popular kids to watch... I'm sorry man, I tried!

After these two shows cancellation and the Casey Anthony verdict, I'm convinced that sometimes, there's just no justice in this world. Don't even get me started on Arrested Development.

Don't worry kids, my next article will be meatier, I promise. This is nothing more than a nostalgic brainfart, really.

Cheers,

The Next Genre

Shall be whatever genre I feel like attacking at the time. This isn't feigned confidence. It is simply the truth as I see it. I promise not to disappoint.

On Facebook hiring the Sony Hacker

Congratulations Geohot,

Thanks for making it necessary to create a code that makes it harder for people like you to break into.

I guess it's always much easier to destroy something than to create it, isn't it?

I'm sure you'll fit right in with the Thought Police at Facebook.

Cheers,

But not.

You stole my info, dude. I'm not on your side. thanks so much for sticking it to "The Man"

2nd thought of the day

God Bless Chris Cornell. You understand me, man. You may not know it, but you do. Black Hole Sun.

thought of the day

My heart is open again,
After a foreclosure
That lasted nineteen months.

I wonder, how many others
Out there who have had the
Same thing happen to them.

For how long, and for what reason...
And I feel lucky and blessed,
That it was just a passing thing.

Pictures

Yes, I know you all must be bored with reading just words. As many of you know, films are stories told in pictures, not words. I'll make sure to give you some nice things to look at in some of my future posts.

Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself

Just so I can squash any rumors that I'm a successful schizophrenic or just plain nuts, I'd like to offer up a few explanations on the differences between PW Jackson, myself, and the actor known as Perry Jackson.

Two different people. Okay perhaps they share the same body,

but two different people.

PW is the writer.
Perry is a friendly, out-going, young up and coming actor.

PW is the shrewd businessman.
Perry is the compassionate artist.

PW says whatever he feels at the time. Sometimes he acts like a fool with no mama.
Perry uses tact, is very respectful towards his mother, and never uses the word b****.

PW is mysterious.
Perry is an open book.

Perry is conscientious of all human life, and loves everyone.
PW just don't give a...

PW is the well read Classics major.
Perry is the theater boy.

PW is Blogspot.
Perry is Youtube and Twitter. (As soon as he proves he's responsible enough to have a Twitter account)

PW is East Coast.
Perry is West Coast.

I know, it seems like PW is a real @$$hole, but that's not the case, he's just very blunt and honest. He doesn't have time to BS you, or take anyone else's BS. He actually can't stand @$$holes. He can be a d*** sometimes, but only when provoked. The difference between these two types of people can be seen in the film Team America, by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

That being said, if I could put this as simply as possible,

PW is the brain,
Perry is the heart.

Two parts of an equation that are necessary for each other's existence.

I hope this clears things up-

Let's just call this an introduction. This is who I am. Now I can finally stop talking about myself. Or my other self.

I'm just glad there's no other other self. That would just be completely unmanageable.

Peace,

PW

June Rant

So I've decided to begin a new series, (rants, I like to call them) speaking about current events in stream of consciousness form. I'm not sure if it will make good reading, but I'm pretty sure it will make things a little interesting, and hopefully free up my writing. Here goes.

I haven't had a chance to talk about the things I want to talk about for awhile so there may be a few things in here that are a little outdated so please bear with me. First of all, **** your sovereignty Pakistan, if the roles were reversed you would understand where we were coming from. I'm glad that Obama and the Navy seals got the job done, and even though I am a Christian and I am supposed to forgive Bin Laden, I still need more time for that. I believe that he was evil in its purest form, and if the only thing you can think of to improve the life of you and yours is by destroying the lives of innocent others, you're wrong, and you will never have my support. I'd say the same thing if an American was doing the same. I believe justice was done. I know this won't be the end, because some other ignorant fool will just pick up the torch that Osama has lit, but in the end, the wicked will be defeated, plain and simple. And to Pakistan, all I have to say to you is that you need to stand down. You said he wasn't there and he was. FOR YEARS. You gotta lotta splainin' to do, so don't come at us with that attitude. Deal with it.

In other news... Yeah Richard T. Jones probably should've had a script at that University of Maryland commencement speech...actors aren't normally known for their intellectual prowess, and he proved that point, painfully. Man that was hard to watch. Luckily the students were pretty supportive, and probably just tired of hearing PHd's talk anyway. Speakingof actors giving speeches, how come Denzel had to come to Penn now? I think 2005 would have been a much better year... When I was there, all we had was Kofi Annan... Now this is gonna sound bad, but I did nod off a bit. I'm sorry I know Kofi led the United Nations, but Denzel was in Training Day. Training Day. That's all I gotta say about that. And Amy Poehler at Harvard? Awww man, that's not even fair. That's so awesome, honestly.

What else?

Oh, yeah, so about the Republicans..... it really doesn't matter who you guys choose... When Obama walked up to that podium to announce the death of Bin Laden, you might as well have had the election on the same night... That's change that I can believe in.

As usual, the Dodgers suck... moving right along...

The Lakers are out, and got embarrassed... didn't see it coming, but whatever, can't win them all, I always say.... or maybe I don't always say that cus I like to win, but I'm forced to say it that because we lost. Damnit. I have no excuses or explanations... we got swept. Hope Dirk ruins LeBron's party. I'm not ready for Kobe to give up the King of the NBA title yet. And no, Derrick Rose is not King of the NBA. He only got MVP cus LeBron pissed everybody off.

Damn, why is Rob Lowe so funny? how does he do it? Speaking of other funny actors. Tom Sizemore, WTF? I know your life is pretty much in shambles, but I saw you in Always Sunny... Great work, man! Honestly, if you can still make me laugh, keep doing whatever you're doing... Well, not everything you're doing, but stay with the comedy, it suits you...

So I saw Fast Five the other day... not bad, completely jacked almost all of the elements from Italian Job and Ocean's 11, but whatever, I wasn't expecting much. Vin Diesel vs. The Rock was awesome. I'm just glad it wasn't in 3D...

Speaking of 3D, I'm sorry Mr. Depp, you're one of my top 5 actors, but I'm not going to see Pirates in theaters. There are plenty of little foreign kids who will help keep your pockets fat. (I saw the international numbers) Even if the movie is good, this is your punishment for part 3, which I still couldn't finish even though I rented it... I really tried to get past act one, I did, I promise. Besides, you're making a part 5, you don't care if I go see this one anyway.

Speaking of sequels, please, please, please, let part 6 be the last in the Fast and Furious franchise... I know this prayer will go unanswered cus you're basically printing money, but please. Enough is enough. I'd like Vin Diesel to eventually be able to return to respected actor territory. If he keeps doing Fast, he'll be rich, but what else will be? That's right, nothing. Just rich. Moving right along...

How come it's so hard for them to make sequels we'd actually want to see??? Anchorman 2 doesn't look like it's gonna happen, and Zoolander 2 is being halted as well... I don't get it, can Hollywood ONLY make sequels of BAD movies? Come on!

Okay, I'm winding down, but before I go, I must say, screw the NFL, its owners, and the players (perhaps not as much the players) for ruining my Autumn. Autumn, as you know, is known for cool breezes, beautiful colored leaves, and... oh that's right, FOOTBALL. Thanks to you guys I'll just being sitting around drawing little pictures of leaves falling from trees, cus that's literally the best thing I'll be able to do with my time. I suppose I'll actually be going to church, which is a good thing, but I'D STILL LIKE TO HAVE THE OPTION! Speaking of options, I've been told that the answer for the avid football fan is to get into College Football. Oh yes, I'll be doing that, (because I have no choice) but let's just remember... I live in LA and I'm a big UCLA fan. We haven't been good since J.J. Stokes went there... Re: the 1990s... Yeah, back when OJ Simpson was just that funny black dude in the Naked Gun movies... Even if I jump ship and root for the Trojans, oh wait, no postseason play 'til 2012-13! Thanks NFL, you're really freakin' did it this time... I mean, your timing, it's just so impeccable. It's like, somewhere near the end of the season last year, you thought to yourself, right after the Eagles lost in the playoffs, "Hey, it wasn't bad enough that the Eagles are out... how can we totally ruin PW's sports life Re: his entire life, even more? Oh right, A LOCKOUT!" Let's just forget that we completely rule all other major sports, and have even trumped Baseball as America's favorite... let's just throw that all in the garbage, and just not have a season. That's a great friggin idea!

Goddell, you suck. That's your legacy.

Is that it? Is that all I have to say?

Well at 2:37 am, so I'm gonna say that it is.

As always, this Rant was complete stream of consciousness and was only edited for spelling and grammar so y'all would understand it. No disclaimers allowed.

Peace, love, and sooooouuuuuulllllll....

I'm Out.

Modus Operandi

I'm well aware that most people outside my family don't give a sh*t whether I live or die. That is no matter. But if God has placed you in my life, in my vicinity, breathing my air, then you're under my watch. I got your back. When he decides you should no longer be in my presence, then we're done. No nostalgia, no hard feelings, no nothing. I am no respector of persons, nor do I linger on the past. But for those who are currently in my life, and you're real, and I'm down for what you're fighting for, then you have a loyal, ready and willing ally. If you take that for granted, or attempt to exploit my kindness, it will not go unnoticed. This is the way things are, and the way they will be, until further notice. I love yall, but there will be no tolerance for betrayal or bamboozling in my presence. And that's the way it is. You don't like it, I suggest you stay out of my jurisdiction.

Thank you.

Thought of the Day Part 2

Being boring is one of the keys to a boring life.

I Know No One Reads This Blog

So because of this fact, I can be a bit more expressive. Perhaps not so conservative with what I say, because it won't really matter anyway. I doubt I'll ever say anything career-killing anyway, especially with Mel Gibson still doing pretty well for himself. Can't do much worse than that.

Anyway, on a completely different subject, I'd like to take a minute and post this article about the recently deceased comedian Greg Giraldo. As an avid watcher of Comedy Central, I got to know his comedy pretty well, but I had no idea about his background. A supremely intelligent guy. Check this out:

http://www.esquire.com/features/greg-giraldo-obituary-092910

Anyway, I just found this really interesting, and I hope you do too. RIP Greg.

Obviously my word of the day is anyway. Or any word that ends in -ay.

May 10th Part 2

There were a few things I forgot to mention in the first post. This is a companion piece. You'll have to excuse the expletives, but this is necessary.

F*ck this life. Seriously, f*ck this life that I am living right now. I can't even express my frustrations in a single word, sentence, paragraph, or essay. All I can do is record the thoughts that come into my mind,

one

by

one.

This needs to be vented, or I will suffocate from the toxic fumes of these emotions.

So let's open the window.

I'm tired of seeing spoiled actors whine and complain about their contracts that only allow them to afford the new Tesla, but aren't enough to get the new Rolls Royce. You are the actors that people like me have come to abhor. It's like how good women complain about loose women. You give us a bad name. I'm not in the mood to name any names. I don't have the energy for a personal battle. But we all know who they are.

I can't express to you how blessed you are just to be able to be doing your job, to be able to work everyday AND get paid for it. I feel like I'm one of Chekhov's three sisters right now. All I want to do is work. In my position, the few times I do get to act come from me paying heavily out of pocket for some training program or from some workshop in North Hollywood. Or I guess I can take off work so I can do a play that won't pay me any money, because I should just feel ecstatic to have the opportunity to be performing in front of an audience. This ain't high school play production class, homie. There's bills to pay... Imagine if a lawyer had to pay 350 dollars a month (which happens to be more than a waiter's paycheck in most instances) just for the opportunity to litigate. Imagine if a doctor had to ruin their credit, just to be allowed to practice medicine... Sounds preposterous, doesn't it? Well, that's my reality, everyday. F*ck seven figures, how about just making enough to not have to live at home in my late twenties? How about give me enough to afford health insurance? (I'd even take a crappy HMO at this point- yeah, it's that bad.) How about enough to get a decent car that doesn't break down every two months? How about that? How about not having to work in the hospitality industry (an industry that despite popular opinion, has NOTHING to do with the entertainment industry) just so I can do what I'm trained to do? I grow tired of serving your food and drinks.

I did not go to Penn to become a bartender.

I'm tired of seeing people I went to school with partying it up, while I play the role of the hired help. It's beyond degrading. There's really no word for it. They say nothing really changes in this town, just the faces. Well, that doesn't matter to me. I no longer care what the rules are. Bend or break, something's going to give.

I'm not complaining.

This is the way things are, realistically. When sh*t is f*cked up, you admit that sh*t is f*cked up, and you work to change that. I'm not sugarcoating, because sugarcoating is too damn expensive.

From this moment on, things will be different. I'm tired of having no control over my career. It's time for a rebellion. Every choice I make, everyday, will have all of these words in the back of my head.

I don't want to be a lawyer.
I don't want to do private wealth management.
I don't want to be a dentist.
I don't want be a stockbroker.
I don't want to be a consultant.
I don't want to be a second AD.
I don't want to be a pharmacist.
I don't want to be a politician.
I don't want to be a therapist.
I don't want to be an agent.

I am an artist, and that's the way it's gonna be, until I stop breathing.

And in the afterlife, I'll be doing the same damn thing.

If none of this is making any sense, watch this. I'll wait.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_qgVn-Op7Q&feature=related

I'm not a crazy person. I'm just gifted, focused, and misunderstood.

I know there are people who have it worse. You don't have to tell me that. But I will not settle for 2nd, 3rd, or last place because there's another guy who has it better, or worse than me. I can't live their lives for them- I can only live mine. This is not about humility or pride. I have enough humility to share, so let me know if you need some. I am not a prideful man, but I EXPECT MORE OUT OF LIFE THAN THIS. And if you tell me there's nothing to be done PW, this IS it, this is your f*cked up life, now deal with it, then I'll ask you why am I still here? If this is all I can expect, you might as well kill me now. I was not born to be a waste of talent. There's more to life than this. I know it. And I'm going to find it. All of it.

I want my Holy Grail.

It's time to stop explaining things.

I must make my witness.

Go.

Tuesday, May 10

Thought of the day:

Arrogance is weak.

In other news, I did some research into any other possible careers today. Cus, honestly, this career sucks, for many reasons...

But unfortunately, there were no other paths that were more desirable.

It feels like when I go to the voting booth. I don't usually care much for either candidate, but I know it's more important to vote than to abstain. And with the exception of Barack Obama, I feel like I'm just picking the lesser of two necessary evils.

I don't want to go back to school. I have enough debt already. I looked at MBA and JD schools. I have absolutely no interest in them. I think business school might be fun, but I don't want any of the careers they prepare you for. The thought of spending the rest of my life in a law office or a courtroom makes me want to vomit. It seems that the more time passes, the less qualified I am for these stable careers, and coincidentally, the less I am interested in taking these positions anyway. At the same time, I am tired of working in restaurants. I am tired of doing it. If you've ever been to a restaurant, you know what I mean. Frankly, I am tired of putting up with people's sh*t.

Straight up.

So I'm doing the only backup I have left.

I'm writing my family and I out of the hood.

Wish me luck.

the Flatterer

If I know the right words to flatter you, what makes you think I don't know the words that will piss you off?

It is a choice.

Question of the Day

Does every person experience heartbreak before they die? Is it a choice, or is it some tribulation that you must experience before you become an adult?

Does every man have his Rosalind?

Clara

We won't be needing to talk about her anymore.

Why?

Because I've found someone better;)

March 23rd

I just want to get through life without having a perpetually forced smile.

Goals vs. Expectations

Ambitious goals should never be confused with unrealistic expectations... If you mistake one for the other, the result is like cyanide to your dreams. The most powerful dreams have a hint of the fantastic, mixed with a tinge of reality. There are stakes. Hold onto those most powerful, vivid dreams, and discard the superficial pipe dreams- they accomplish nothing more than occupying your time. Achieve the right balance, and you'll REALIZE what you dreamed up in the first place.

Broken Relationships

How do you tell a girl she just lost the best man she ever had?

You don't.

The Game Called Go Insane

I don't know what scares me the most-

The fact that I'm capable of it,

the fact that I've already done it,

or the fact that it could happen again.

This world gets crazier every day I'm in it-

So, was I actually going crazy,

or was I just adapting to my environment?

Nobody is going to buy that.

Even though it may actually be the case...

Some thoughts and actions aren't meant to leave the brain.

Some impulses must be ignored-

to survive.

That's all I got.

I'm 27.

The Path to Stardom

Some times I think about quitting... But before I do, I start to think about all the people out there that would be so elated to hear such news, and then I think, enh, maybe I can hold out for a little bit longer.

"Eat today, and work twice as hard tomorrow"

On Happiness

I really can't tell if I'm happy or not. I suppose unhappy people definitely know that they're unhappy. I honestly don't whether I'm happier than most people, or I just happen to get more sleep than they do. Who knows, maybe that's all the difference there is.

Wake up Call Part 2

PW,

You're not going to be a waiter your entire life. You're not to end up some bitter actor teaching classes under the table so you can have just enough money for a Honda Civic and barely pay your student loan bill on time. You will be fine. Life sucks a little bit right now, I know, but this will not last forever. You don't care what strangers and society and flaky friends think about you anyway, and your real friends and family already accept you for who you are. You have nothing to prove that you haven't already proven. Don't let naysayers grab a stronghold in your mind. Even yourself. As soon as you detect that emotion, squash it, or walk the other way. Youy have nothing to be ashamed about. You are not a waiter. You are not a busser. Those jobs don't define you any more than any role you'll ever take on. They are a means to an end. Any means necessary, remember? You're going to be great. You're already much closer than where you came from.

Blow up the outside world,

Perry

And come on, an agent? Really?

Please.

Wake Up Call

You've got about 3 or 4 years to make Perry Jackson a household name. If not, he's becoming a talent agent. I'll be damned if he's some washed up former actor teaching improv on Melrose for the rest of his days...

You best believe that, kid.

On Prison

**** that. I am not goin to jail. Not for nothin, not for nobody. There's no women in there... And I just, I am simply not able to fathom a world without them. I wouldn't last a day. So there. I am NOT a fall guy.

LA Football

Um... Did anybody else see those plans for the new downtown stadium? C'mon Magic, fa real? Is it like that? AND we don't have to pay for it? Wow. Still makin it happen after all these years. Sorry Al Davis, you don't get to come back. How the weather up in Oakland?

BOOM, baby.

On LA Haters

If you don't like it, get the *bleep* out. And if you don't like people, then take your @$$ to Riverside.

Buy low, sell high.

Perry Jackson stock is on the rise baby. Better get it while you can still afford it:)

To CG

If I was a better writer I'd have thought up something original, but instead I'll use the words of one Jill Scott. Hopefully this is the last I'll have to say on the matter.

Slowly, surely,
I walk away from
self-serving,
undeserving,
constantly hurting me love
deserting me love...

That old desperate and dazed love,
caught up in the maze of love,
the crazy craze of love,
thought it was good,
thought it was real,
thought it was,
but it was... not... love.

Quote of the Day, 1-31

On why the Lakers have been underperforming:

"Is it the playoffs yet?"
-Phil Jackson

I mean, we were all thinking it, but I didn't think he'd actually say it...

Word to the Wise

Don't argue with stupid people. Or mobs. But especially don't argue with a mob of stupid people.

Friday, January 28, 2011

Be Smart.

You can't go hunting down others for every infraction taken against you- it will weaken your defenses. Better to save your energy for when it counts. Rather than engage in small, tiring bouts, defeat your enemies with one swift blow.

silence

Just because I'm quieter than I used to be doesn't mean that I'm not thinking the same thoughts.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Quote of the Day

ESQUIRE: So how would you like people to think of you?

BALE: I don't care.

ESQUIRE: Really?

BALE: I don't care. Being misunderstood is not a bad thing as an actor. I know the truth.

On Finding the Right Girl.

Look at it this way. Even if you think 90 percent of all girls suck, and only 5 percent of those who don't suck are cute, if you're a pretty decent guy, you'll only need one anyway. So, yeah, most girls you date will probably suck.

But you only need one.

Numbers.

On Depression

F*ck Depression. Now get out the bed, take a shower, and grow a pair.

The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes after party feels almost exactly like prom. Except there's way more Moet, and all your classmates just happen to be A-list stars, directors, and producers. Yeah.

Capricorn Part Deux

Well the first night with you
Was quite cool,
I bought you drinks
And I thought you ruled,
But as things so often go,
One night later and I'm thinking no.
Cus you left me hangin like a coat on a hook,
Feelin like I'm 20 pages into a terrible book.
So far too early it's time we parted ways,
I'll say the other nite was all just a daze.
Funny how things start so well,
And within hours its all gone hell.
Good luck with everything and all that jazz,
At least while it lasted we had somewhat of a blast.

Letter to Johnny Depp

I know where you;re at...
just to let you know,
I'm there,
well not really.
you're my favorite,
so... you deserve this.
the truth is,
we need you back.
see, we're with you,
but,
we need you to come
back to the fear and loathin,
and love.
we still feel you but you're not where you should be.
come back.
you'll now
what this means.
not in a gary busey kind of way.
i'll see you in waikiki.

Capricorn

Tonight I met you in a blaze of fire
you sent me so much higher
than I ever been before,
lighting my fire as it's never been,
lit.
So lit.
Without any other fire in the sky
I burned brighter than all
the other stars in the sky ...
Asleep in their own
shells of closed attention.
Peaceful.
No airs.
No question of where or how or why,
but only me,
and u.
Not a question of love,
or muse,
or amuse.
just me, and you.
don't care where it goes,
just as long as you're here for the ride.
Yes.

Perry Jackson 2011 Mission Statement

My name is Perry Jackson, and I’m an actor.
I promise I’m not a rapper, but I’ve always had a way with words.
So before you burn, delete, or shred this,
Let’s see if I can provide something you deserve.

I may be from LA, but my time on the East
Taught me much more about the nature of the Beast.
Very expensive schools lead to a few things,
A huge amount of debt, along with the nice sheepskin and pretty class rings.

So though my art school buddies may think I’m a sellout,
It’s Hollywood or bust ‘til all my bills past due post a zero amount.
Though Shakespeare and I will still remain Facebook friends,
I will definitely do a Disney movie to increase dividends.

I have a large frame that can play security, fireman, or cop,
But my intellect says a lawyer, doctor, or CEO at the top.
Whatever the role, I’ve got plenty of range,
Whether you see me on the internet, the screen, or the stage.

Casting directors say I remind them of a young Will Smith,
While managers see me as more of a Forest Whitaker,
If you ask me, I'd say, well it depends on the literature…

My name is Perry Jackson, sometimes confused with Percy,
So I won't rob any lightning, but I'll steal some thunder with no mercy.
It’s easy to tell that I'm dramatically trained, but you still might
see me working the room at Upright Citizens Brigade.

Whether you'd like to scream, laugh, or cry,
Its clear that in most genres, I'm your go-to-guy.
In any case, I don't mean to ramble; after all, this is just a preamble...

So let's meet for an interview, let's call it informational,
and though I have great presence, don't worry, I'm mostly non-confrontational.
Perhaps we'll hit it off, and see where this goes- either way,
I can assure you that I'm not "one of those".

And even if we if don't end up a match made in heaven,
I'll still say hello if I see you at the 7-eleven.

Exiting the Facebook Conversation Part 2

Well that took forever... I can't express how hard it is to get off of that damn site. Especially for some one who's job it is to sell himself. However, some thing had to give. I've been off of it for what seems like months now, but in actuality it's probably only been about a week or two, tops. I think there's something very addictive about posting a question or photos and seeing how your friends and colleagues respond to them.

But I gotta tell you...

I'm starting to think it fosters insecurities. I know for a fact it's making us less human- well, that and texting, of course. It's almost like half of the stuff I would post simply to see what kind of reaction I would get. Right or wrong, that's what ended up happening. I think the difference with this website is that I know very few people read it, so it has less of a soapbox quality to it. I can say more of what I really feel, to a certain extent, as long as it's not self-incriminating... but I digress. In any case, I'm hoping that without the intrinsic pressure that comes along with TheBook, I can produce some work that's actually worth experiencing. Maybe it will be a bit more pure, and a little less forced. I have noticed that I have been having more creative ideas since I stopped making status updates. Namely, not all the thoughts that come into my head are only in blurb form. They're also a little more complex. We'll see where that goes.

I suppose the most exciting thing about deactivating FB is that I did it for a good reason- to refocus on my career, and to create incentives for achieving results. For example, I can't reactivate until I have a theatrical agent. It's no easy feat. I'm not here to complain about it- but I must say it demands a lot of attention, dedication, time, and tenacity. Sometimes I feel like I'm selling auto insurance or something, or maybe that's just how the situation feels. You're selling something to a consumer that they don't think they need, until they do.

So there it is... actor/auto insurance salesman. There's your analogy for the day.

This is a hard business. I suggest that you don't go into it- at least that's what I'll my kids if I ever have 'em.

But hey, at least the sun is finally coming out again...

Rest in Peace, Pete Postlethwaite.

The Perry Jackson 2011 Mission Statement.

Much Love,
